Although he was not vomiting or outright dramatically sick, his owner knew he was not himself so brought him in to us. On physical examination, he was very healthy except for pain when his belly was palpated. Without anything else to go on, the doctor felt x-rays would be the most helpful in determining what was going on. X-rays very distinctly showed a button in his stomach.
Surgery was the best option and Theo immediately went into emergency surgery. The button was located as suspected in his stomach and removed through a small stomach incision. Theo recovered from surgery quickly, eating and playing within a few days!
It is important to note that when cats eat objects that can block their stomach and intestines, they do not always vomit – sometimes they merely stop eating or hide. You know your cat best and sometimes subtle signs can still indicate a significant problem.
